In early 2023 we formally launched the findings of A home for me ? our comparative review of adoption, special guardianship and long-term fostering as alternative forms of permanence for children who can’t be cared for by their birth parents.
Seeing the relevance of it to so many, Cardiff University’s Children’s Social Care Research and Development Centre – CASCADE – invited our CEO, Prof. Jim Clifford, to present a webinar on the findings as the first of its new series through its ExChange programme (focused on building better social care in Wales).
Chaired by Prof. Sally Holland, from 2015 to 2022 the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, it explored not just the findings, and the recommendations for changes in practice and policy, but also the wider implications for a system that, designed to help the vulnerable, appears to be missing opportunities.
